PS on Richard Strauss

The Opera Europa(*) conference in Antwerpen in April of this year was dedicated to the theme of Creation, and included a session with an impressive panel of senior staff from the major music publishers.

Janis Susskind, Managing Director of Boosey & Hawkes (administrators of the Richard Strauss opera corpus) made a plea to the artistic admins and general directors in the audience – that the money that they would 'save' on Strauss copyright fees should be ring-fenced for programming new works.  The proposal was very warmly received.
